Main Task: Mood Board
This is my moodboard i have created. I have taken images and texts for inpsirartion on my music magazine. As my music magazine is Hip Hop and R'N'B ive decided to use a wide range of images which connect to it. For example ive used U.S.A flag and the currency dollars to represent how americans are really proud of their country. The images of famous celebrities eg. Beyonce, Ciara, Jay Z etc. show the people witihin the music genre of Hip Hop R'N'B. The text 'Swagger' at the top right hand corner has sevral differnet meanings for example style, fashion, image, sexiness. etc i decided to put this text there because it describes HipHop R'N'B. I havent really focused on one colour scheme i decided to use sevral different colours as this will allow me to have a wide range of ideas on what theme colour i would like on my magazine.
Main Task: Case Study of a Publishing House
The publishing company i will be doing research on is 'MusicMags'. As soon as i saw this logo i decided to choose it because it caught my eye straight away and looks very modern and stylish.

There are over 2 dozen titles- which allows you to target the customers needs acuarately.
It seems that a specific type of audience are targeted by these magazines. Those who are music instrument retailers, poeple who may play a musical instrument, or those who may be within a band. This company seems to own a different type of magazine which is suited for what the customer may like. For example a drum player within a band may want to have more knowledge and understanding on drums meaning he/she will purchase the specific magzine title 'Drum!'.
This company would target different audiendces with each magazine that it makes because they would be making good profit also the use of specific genres on each magazine makes it easier for certain aundiences to see what they want to read. By doing this also makes the company more popular and well known drawing in a wider and broader audience.
'MusicMags' has a few other buisness interests. On their website they share a few tips that when advertising a music magazine it should be in a well known busy area this allows the chance of more buyers. Also the magazine should stand out and be well lit and visble.
Last year alone , MusicMags 1400+ retailers collectively 3.5 times the industry standard* in annual revenue per square foot through their MusicMags programme.
Main Task: Profiling Your Audience
Jennifer,20, is passionate about Hip Hop and R'N'B Music. She has several hobbies/interests which are: singing, dancing, shopping, reading and writing poems.As we can see her hobbies and interests are mostly related to music and relaxation. Singing is something she would like to do in the future however at the moment she attends university and is studying music. She currently works part time at 'HMV' allowing herself time for her education which she is highly dedicated to. Shes a passionate person and enjoys writing poems.As she writes her poems she gets ideas to transform these into lyrics to make her own songs. As shes into Hip Hop and R'N'B she usually goes around carrying her I-Pod downloading all the latest tunes and recieving articles on whats new. In the future Jennifer tends to become a song writer or performer as she enjoys being on stage and performing to a big live audience.
Main Task: Audience Reserch
As part of my audience research i decided to collect my information using a social network- BlackBerry Messanger. Here are a few questions i asked my friends.
This question i asked shows that some people may listen to different types of genres. This shows that its better targeted in a specific audience than a wider range.
Looking at this information the main colours that came up: gold, black, silver, yellow.These all represent the jewllery that is wore on the artists while taking pictures. These colours are bold and stand out. These colours may be applied to my work as these colours did appear on my moodboard.
This helps to understand what key features make this genre known and from this i can adapt to it and apply my own understanding onto my music magazine.

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis
Colour SchemeThe magazine cover consists of a non colour photograph of a man looking directly at the camera. The background of the photograph is grey- using a monochromatic scale this is the colour scheme they used.
Character
The double page spread photograph is that of a famous rapper 'Dr Dre'. A very well known man in the music industry.
Image
The right hand side of the double page spread is an image of 'Dr Dre'- Its a medium close up showing just his arms and head. The image only carries onto the left hand side of the page a little bit, which is fine. His costume is very simple and casual. Hes wearing a simple black leather jacket and a watch on his wrist. This shows how some rappers are calm however, are posers when taking pictures as they like to flash their jewellery representing most hip&hop / R'N'B.

Stand-first
Its used at the start of the article. A introductory paragraph to show what is going to be talked about this gets the audience engaged.
Subject Name
The subject name is placed on the left hand side top corner. The sentence "Good things come to those who wait" shows how the article will be discussing about Dr Dre's life and his experiences.

Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis
Denotation
The music magazine cover consists of Beyonce looking directly into the camera. It is a medium long shot showing her head, arms and waist. Her clothing is very simple but revealing. Shes wearing a white top with a long V neck cut exposing her chest and black sequin hot pants. This costume connotes dirty, sexy and flirtatious. Its seems this costume was chosen to suit its target audience of being male. Looking at Beyonce closely we see her body is wet- making her clothes stick to her body more. Her hair is wavy and wet from the water connoting a sexual representation of women. In one of her videos Beyonce ft Shakira- Beautiful Liar she also leans against a wall while water spits from above soaking Beyonces body and hair.
NVC
Her non-verbal communication is also very seductive. Her mouth is slightly open showing off her pinkish lips and bright white teeth. Her eyes are slightly squinted as she looks directly into the camera, engaging with the audience.
LIGHTING
The lighting is very high key, as the photograph shows off that the area is supposed to be a bright clean place.
SETTING
SETTING
There is hardly any setting except the fresh creamy white background. This can connote Beyonce being in a shower as we see her body and hair is wet and there seems to be small little squares looking similar to tiles.

The main cover line which relates to the photograph mentions "Beyonce strips down for summer" This connects to her image as she is wearing clothes which are revealing and the water being a symbol as to cool her down. It also shows that this summer Beyonce should be releasing new songs which people will defiantly enjoy. The different cover lines tell us that this magazine magazine doesn't just concentrate on just one genre of music. "Rap Beef 2.0" this shows that Beyonce is the main image but there is more information on different types of music in this case it being rap. TARGET AUDIENCE
Looking over all these points it seems that the target audience is likely to be from teenagers upwards (16-35). However, considering the male audience more than female. It seems this age category would have good knowledge if this type of music especially the teenagers as they are lately in fashion and know whats what.

Main Task: Introduction
My name is Victoria Adesola and currently studying AS Media Studies at Christ The King College. My task is to create a front cover, contents page and double page spread on my selected genre. I have decided to choose Hip Hop R'N'B. For me to be able to acomplish my own music magazine, i will have to research other types of front covers, contents pages and double page spreads of a music magaizine. I will also be completing this with a textual analysis of an exsisting music magazine and be producing convention diagrams.

Preliminary: Front cover textual analysis
By looking at this magazine straight away we can tell its target audience is teenagers who attend college. The masthead which says 'college' is written in a bold, strong, vibrant colour which can connote that college has sevral different meanings to it eg: friends, life, education and future.The use of the pink paint splattered on the page shows there is a fun side and that college can organise fun trips for the teenagers to go on it also cononotes that college has its rewards if you work hard.
The shot used for the main image is a mid-shot, it is very clear and he gives the readers a little smile connoting he enjoys college and things may be turning out well for him also his eyes are looking directly into the camera.
His costume is very simple- white top, black jacket and a pair of jeans. This shows how a typical college boy may dress, very casual and relaxed. The props which are used in this shot is a silver long chain with the crucifics straight away it makes us think that he is a religious person and the books he is holding in his hand connote education, smart, eager to learn, future.
No setting is used just a simple black faded background, which is simple and easy. The use of lighting is very effective, high key lighting is used because it is even and free from dark shadows making it look more natural and bright.
NVC is as i mentioned before is the young man giving the camera a charming little grin- connotig that he is a happy young lad who seems as if he enjoys college.

Induction:Movie Poster Textual Analysis
Looking at his costume, he seems as if his a warrior, hero and action man. The clothes his wearing seems very old fashioned and looks suitable to wear on a rough adventure/journey. The props he is holding are a gun and a whip; this shows that he is prepared to fight and the gun connotes serious danger and some violence.
His body language connotes that he is a strong, independent, bold man who takes risks. His eyes are looking directly at the camera and his facial expressions are very serious and stern.
The fire in the background shows that allot is going to happen; connotations of this are, danger, hell, devil.
The lighting is very dark exspecialy around his body however, the back light shines on him connoting his important and exciting.

Anchoring- the title seems very cartoonish as we know in the film 'Indiana Jones' there is slight comedy involved and in his character.
The background is all very ancient and historical. The ingraved desings in the background give the audience an idea of what the film may be based around and an idea of where settings could be.

Inducton: Re-creation of a Movie Magazine Front Cover
I found that using Adobe Photoshop was quite hard in the begining, however, after a while i began to get the hang of it. Types of tools i used were horizontal type tool and eye dropper tool. These allowed me to add text on my page, change font, change size of font and apply the exact colour wanted . For my masthead to look similar to the origianl copy of the front cover magazine i applied a shadow drop to the text to give it a bold and shadow effect. I learnt that applying a new layer makes things much easier so if u do not need that layer anymore you can easily delete it.
